Cedar Falls Council Rejects Extra Roundabout Plan

Proposed Roundabout at 6th and Main Streets Nixed

The Cedar Falls City Council met last night in a special session to consider adding another roundabout to the Main Street reconstruction project slated to start this spring.  At issue was about adding a single-lane “three-leg” roundabout to the West 6th and Main Street intersection, with the portion of 6th Street leading to State Street being closed to Main Street traffic.  Representatives of First Bank and Farmers Savings Bank as well as the Cedar Falls Public Library spoke against having the roundabout there and the negative effect it would have on their respective businesses. Councilman Simon Harding had read a letter from a representative from Casey’s also commenting against the roundabout.  In the end, a majority of the council voted to keep the intersection a signalized intersection. Councilman Daryl Kruse, who had offered the roundabout discussion, cast the lone “no” vote.
