Freezing Rain Passes Through; Busy Day For Law Enforcement

An ice storm warning remains in effect until noon today.  Freezing rain fell much of the day Wednesday coating roads, street signs and power lines with a layer of ice ranging from a light glaze in some areas to more than a quarter inch north of Highway 20. Rare ice storm warnings were issued for portions of the area. Many schools and businesses closed for the day on Wednesday.  Most roads now are partially covered by slush, according to the latest 511ia.org road conditions.    The Iowa State Patrol had a busy Wednesday with the weather. Calls for service for the day, from 12 AM – 10:00 PM, were at 134.  48 crashes covered:  38 resulted in property damage; 10 were personal injury, and no fatalities. There were 86 motorist assists.
