$16.50 Campaign supports The Aubri Brown Club in March

Waterloo, Iowa – The family of Waterloo’s newest defenseman has founded an organization which is being highlighted during March as part of the $16.50 Campaign, presented by Slumberland Furniture, “1650 The Fan,” and the Black Hawks

Since 2009, The Aubri Brown Club has provided resources and support for hundreds of families struggling through the loss of a child.  The group’s namesake was the infant sister of the Hawks’ Garrett Brown.  On September 19, 2005, four-month-old Aubri died of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).  In the wake of their grief, the Brown family created The Aubri Brown Club.  The charity raises money for other families on the road to recovery from the death of a child from birth to age 18, regardless of the cause.

“After losing our daughter we knew that helping others with the loss of a child would be near and dear to our hearts,” explain parents Curtis and Ami Brown on the organization’s website.

“This hits very close to home for me personally as I lost my younger brother, Jet, to SIDS; the death of a child is shattering under any circumstances,” said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene.  “Through their own experiences, the Browns have committed themselves to helping other parents put the pieces back together.  I hope fans will support their efforts as way to welcome Garrett, his parents, and his brothers to our Black Hawks family.”

Each month during hockey season, a different charity is highlighted by the Black Hawks and on The Fan’s 1650 AM and 102.3 FM channels.  Hawks supporters and 1650 listeners are encouraged to learn more about the cause and consider a donation in the suggested amount of $16.50.  While that modest amount might seem to only have limited impact, the total amount can grow quickly when many people choose to contribute.
