The auction for the historic Black’s Building in downtown Waterloo ended Thursday. The bidding ended just after noon, with the winning bid at over $1.9 million. No word yet on who the winning bidder is. The building was built in 1913 and has nine floors, including over 199,000 square feet of space. A few years after it was built, it housed the James Black Department store until 1979. According to the current owner, Nelson Properties, the building underwent a $4,000,000 renovation to add apartments and restaurants. The auction was on the Ten-X company website. Another local property will be on the auction block starting on Monday, March 13th, according to that site: the historic River Plaza building at 10 W. 4th Street. The opening bid: $500,000.
