Wloo School Board Approves Public Hearing for New High School Plan
Board Votes 5-2 For Hearing and Vote on July 29

The Waterloo Schools Board of Education Monday night voted 5-2 on the first step on plans for the proposed new single high school concept. The new school would be located in the Central Middle School building, and the board has set July 29th as the date for holding the public hearing and vote to issue $165 million in school infrastructure bonds for the project. Board Chair Astor Williams and board member Jonathan Cox both dissented on the initial vote and Williams said his “no” vote is not indicative of the project itself.
The board will meet next Tuesday in one more work session before the July 29th public hearing. Superintendent Jared Smith says he’s encouraged by the direction of the new concept.

Wloo School Board member Janelle Ewing comments while Superintendent Dr. Jared Smith listens in.
