Waterloo School Board OK’s Placing High School Merger Plan on Nov Ballot

The Waterloo Community Schools Board of Education Monday night voted unanimously, 6-0, to place the $165-million high school merger project on the ballot this fall. This comes after more than 2,400 voters within the school district signed a petition earlier this month calling for putting the issue on the November 5th ballot. For the bond issue to pass, it must get more than 50% approval from the voters. The project would call for a new single high school facility at the Central Middle School/Waterloo Career Center location, with the merging of 10th through 12th graders from East and West High Schools. Eighth and ninth graders would attend the two current high schools. If approved, the new school should be ready by the start of the 2028-29 school year.
