Increase of West Nile Virus Presence Found in Mosquitoes in Black Hawk County

The Black Hawk County Public Health Department says there has been an increase in the presence of West Nile Virus detected in mosquitoes. Department officials say that an increase in the presence of the virus during this time of year is normal, but there are ways to mitigate risk.   To reduce the risk of mosquito bites, you can use insect repellents containing DEET, or wear protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and if you have standing water in your yard, like with containers or old tires, remove or empty them out.
