‘Tis the season.

IT’S TIME TO SET UP YOUR “ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU” CHALLENGE _ Any day now we’ll be hearing Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” playing over speakers in doctors offices, furniture stores, big box retailers, and, yes, on the radio. Because the song is one of the most-played holiday tunes, some turn it into a contest with friends called the All I Want for Christmas Is You Challenge. Each friend puts some money in, with the last person to hear the song getting all the dough. It’s similar to the Last Man Challenge that some friends do after the Super Bowl, where they attempt to avoid knowing the winner of the Super Bowl for as long as possible. Obviously you have to trust that each of your friends will let the others in the Challenge know when they hear All I Want for Christmas Is You for the first time. The last one standing gets the pot of cash. The song is from Mariah Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas. The song was written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff in just 15 minutes. Despite being a Christmas song, it was recorded in August 1994. To create a festive atmosphere, the studio was decorated with Christmas trees and lights. Although released in 1994, the song did not reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 until December 2019. It has topped the charts multiple times since then. It is the best-selling holiday song by a female artist, having sold over 20 million copies worldwide.

MAJORITY OF AMERICANS BELIEVE THEY’VE SEEN A GHOST _ From seeing ghost children with jet black eyes to experiencing otherworldly green flashes to witnessing the TV mysteriously flicker on and off, a Halloween study found that most people have a stronger connection to the paranormal than one might think. Just over 60 percent of people admit to having seen a ghost in their lifetime. One in three people have either lived or stayed in a house they felt was haunted. The study also identified America’s top 10 fears as: snakes, spiders, sharks, drowning, heights, public speaking, failure, bees, cramped spaces and rejection.
