It’s not just basketball season ….

THE OTHER MARCH MADNESS _ Every March, away from the basketball court, a different kind of madness begins: vasectomy season. It’s a combination of things that brings this about: For most men, personal timing and the sports calendar happen to coincide perfectly. And then there are the deals. Yep, there are snip doctors who run specials during March Madness. Some guys pull the trigger on vasectomies simply because they know they’ll be “forced” to spend some time on the couch. As one patient put it, “If you’re a guy, no one wants to do it. We’re lazy. But any excuse to sit around and watch TV works.” Although the American Urological Association has no official stats on the matter, the Cleveland Clinic once reported a 10 percent rise in the procedure during March Madness. About 500,000 vasectomies are performed annually in the U.S. and generally men start thinking about them around the first of each year and decide, conveniently, to get the procedure done just after Selection Sunday.

WHAT’S A COMPLIMENT YOU HAVE GOTTEN THAT YOU CAN NEVER FORGET? What the internet said…
• My dad told me “I’m proud of you.” It was two days before he passed, and the last thing he said to me.
• My coworker, who was older, unmarried with no kids, once told me, “If I knew I could have a had a daughter like you, maybe I would’ve had kids,” which meant a lot to me because I don’t have a great relationship with my own mother
• My dad and I do not get along at all (vastly different world views) but once a few years ago he said, “I’m really proud of you. You’re so much braver than I’ve ever been. I don’t know where you got it from.” I think about it whenever I’m feeling anxious about a big decision.

AMERICANS LOVE WEIRD FOOD COMBOS _ Do you like your pickles wrapped in cheese? How about popcorn with beans? What about ice cream on meatloaf? In a survey of Americans, these are just a few of the surprising food combinations some of us love. Research revealed mayo and peanut butter sandwiches, and cookies dipped in guacamole also made the cut. The survey found the most popular weird food combo Americans love is the dipping of French fries in their chocolate milkshake. Over a quarter of respondents can’t eat a meal without adding hot sauce to it while 27 percent can’t imagine eating a meal without mayonnaise. Beyond hot sauce and mayo, another 28 percent won’t eat a meal without a salt shaker handy. Half of us “freak out” if our different foods touch each other while on their plate.
