TAX DEADLINE DAY _ April 15 is tax deadline day. If you can’t finish your return in time, you can still avoid a late-filing penalty by requesting an automatic six‑month extension. To do that, submit IRS Form 4868 or make an electronic tax payment marked as an “extension” by the April 15 deadline, and pay as much of your expected bill as you can. Just remember, the extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay, so interest and some penalties can still apply if you underpay.
MINNESOTA’S ‘FUNERAL BREAD’ IS LOVED BY LOCALS _ Up in Roseau, Minnesota (ROW-zo) there’s a potluck staple that raises eyebrows the first time you hear about it: cinnamon bread slathered with Cheez Whiz and topped with green olives. Locals call it “funeral bread,” though the quirky combination shows up just as often at church socials and elementary school potlucks as it does at post-funeral gatherings. The treat’s origins are generally credited to Honl’s Bakery, a Roseau institution that sold rounds of cinnamon bread by the dozens before closing its doors in the 1980s. By the 1970s, funeral bread was already a fixture of community life in Roseau, though no one seems to know exactly when someone first decided that cinnamon and Cheez Whiz belonged together.
WHAT’S THE WEIRD THING YOUR PARENTS WOULDN’T LET YOU DO? What people shared on reddit:
• We weren’t allowed to watch MTV. My mom blocked MTV on the living room TV, but she didn’t block it on their bedroom TV. So my sisters and I would get home from school, watch MTV in my parents’ bedroom, memorize the channel it was on when we turned it on, and then switch it back to that channel when we saw her coming up the driveway.
• Go out during a thunderstorm. My sister was allowed outside but I wasn’t.
• My mom made me turn off the TV or radio when McDonald’s commercials came on.
• Go to concerts. Ever. At all.
• We weren’t allowed to walk on the carpet after my mom vacuumed because she “liked the lines”. We also couldn’t use the bathroom for about an hour after she cleaned it because it was clean.
