Say thanks. Reach out. Bond. Get spiritual.

FOUR HABITS OF HAPPY PEOPLE :
• They say thanks. Research at the University of California-Davis found that those who kept weekly gratitude journals felt better about their lives and were more optimistic about the upcoming week than those who recorded hassles or neutral events.
• They reach out. Volunteer at a homeless shelter, mentor a disadvantaged child or participate in a community project: People who focus on others are happier. Compassionate acts help you feel better about yourself.
• They like to bond. There are few better remedies for unhappiness than an intimate friendship with someone who cares deeply about you. Confiding in others is good for the body as well as for the soul.
• They get spiritual. Studies have shown a link between spirituality and happiness. Cultural historian David Shi, Ph.D., says, “People who have been able to sustain joy usually believe in a higher being, whether through conventional or new-age religion.”

HOW RESTAURANTS GET US TO DRINK MORE, EAT FASTER _ According to research (compiled by The Daily Beast), loud and fast music at restaurants makes people eat faster and drink more. In the mid-1980s, researchers at Fairfield University demonstrated that people increased their rate of chewing by almost a third when listening to faster, louder music, accelerating from 3.83 bites a minute to 4.4 bites a minute. Stoked with data of this nature, chain restaurants developed computerized sound systems that were preset to raise the tempo and volume of music at hours of the day when corporate wanted to turn tables. And a study completed in France found that when music was played at 72 decibels, men consumed an average of 2.6 drinks at a rate of one drink per 14.51 minutes. When the sound level was cranked up to 88 decibels, the numbers spiked to an average of 3.4 drinks, with one consumed every 11.47 minutes.

AS A WEDDING GUEST, WHAT MOMENT MADE YOU THINK, ‘THIS PROBABLY WON’T LAST’?  What the internet shared:
• The groom had have help to put the ring on his bride’s finger due to the fact he shattered all the bones in his hands during a fight at the previous night’s bachelor party.
• The bride spent the entire reception complaining to her friends about how she wished she was marrying her ex instead. Like loud enough that multiple tables heard her. They were divorced within 8 months.
• The bride smeared more cake on the groom’s face than they had agreed upon. So he picked up a handful of cake and threw it at her head so hard her headpiece fell off and her hair was full of icing. She burst into tears and ran from the reception hall and drove away. The bride’s brothers had to be pulled away from beating up the groom. For the next 30 minutes everyone was like, “So… is this reception over?”
