• Never having to discuss plans with anyone. No discussion on dinner, what to watch, what to do, or where to go. You just do what you want all the time.
• Knowing things will be exactly where the left them.
• Being able to binge TV shows without having to wait for another person so you can watch together.
• Being able to do absolutely nothing all weekend without having to explain it to anyone.
• Not having to report where you’re going and when you’ll come back.
• My bed. It’s MINE.
• A day off actually means I can do exactly what I want without any compromise.
THE DEVELOPED COUNTRY THAT DOESN’T GUARANTEE PAID VACATION OR HOLIDAYS _ If your employer gave you Memorial Day off — with pay — you’re one of the lucky ones. The United States is the only developed country (out of 21) that doesn’t guarantee its workers either paid vacation or holidays. European countries establish legal rights to at least 20 days of paid vacation per year, with legal requirements of 25 and even 30 or more days in some countries. Australia and New Zealand both require employers to grant at least 20 vacation days per year; Canada and Japan mandate at least 10 paid days off. The gap between paid time off in the United States and the rest of the world is even larger if you include legally mandated paid holidays, where the United States offers none. Most of the rest of the world’s rich countries offer at least six paid holidays per year. The U.S. has the fewest paid leave days and the second-lowest number of paid vacation days in the world.
