Well, at least they tried

HOW DID A CUSTOMER TRY TO CHEAT THE SYSTEM? _ A guy on Reddit shared that someone came into his McDonald’s with his two young kids and got Happy Meals. The dad then called this guy over and said one of the cheeseburgers had no meat and demanded that he get another one. That’s when one of the kids said, “Dad, you just ate it!”
• “A drunk man insisted that the mop he was carrying away was his.” I said, “”You brought it with you on a winery tour?” “He actually replied, ‘Yes’.”
• “I used to work as a hostess at a wing place. Once we had a family come through and when it was time to pay they handed their server a Denny’s coupon. The server was like, This is for Denny’s, not for here.’ And the customer said, ‘Oh, I just thought I would try it anyways, you never know.’”
• “When someone tries to return an item after wearing it and there’s a giant stain that they couldn’t get rid of.”
• “I work as a barista and sometimes someone will come up to me and tell me that their drink was made wrong earlier and the manager told them that they could come back for a free one later. But, they never have a receipt and they can never remember which manager they spoke with. It’s always super obvious that it’s a scam and they always just leave when I offer to grab a manager.”
• “I once saw a woman at a restaurant walk out with the entire bowl of those small packaged mints. The hostess was in such shock that by the time she walked out to say something the woman already drove off.”
• “We had a lady call our Pizza Hut claiming that we gave her ‘hard, undercooked wings’ that sent her daughter to the hospital and she wanted us to pay her medical bills. However, none of the 5 or 6 phone numbers the woman provided showed any orders for wings or anything else in our system or the nearest few stores. She just expected us to give her thousands of dollars on hearsay?”
• “I work in a fairly high end restaurant and it’s extremely common for people to pull a piece of their own hair out and put it in their food so they don’t have to pay the bill.”

TRUE CRIME: AIR FRESHENERS AND A CORPSE  _ Like a lot of people, I’m  fascinated by offbeat and bizarre true crime, and I came across this one over the weekend that caught my attention. In October 2002, 39-year-old drifter Shane Snellman broke into a house in Greenwich, a wealthy Sydney suburb, only to be caught and shot dead by the homeowner, 50-year-old Bruce Roberts. Instead of calling the police, Roberts — a socially awkward recluse with 19 illegal firearms and a severe hoarding disorder — left the body on the bedroom floor and literally buried it under piles of garbage. To combat the horrific smell of decomposition, Roberts bought and scattered more than 70 air fresheners around the room, continuing to live in the squalor for the next 15 years. The bizarre arrangement only came to light after Roberts died of natural causes in 2017. Because the house was so tightly packed with debris, police cleared Roberts’ remains but completely missed the murder victim just rooms away. It wasn’t until May 2018, nearly a year later, that professional cleaners clearing out the home discovered Snellman’s fully clothed, mummified remains wrapped in a carpet. A 2021 coroner inquest finally pieced the timeline together, ruling the case a burglary gone deadly. Ultimately, the house of horrors was demolished and the vacant land sold for over $2 million.

WHAT IS A SIMPLE THING THAT YOU ARE JUST NOT ABLE TO DO? It’s fun to make fun of yourself for not being able to snap your fingers or whistle — and Online, people said the simple things they couldn’t do are…
• Wrap gifts. “It always looks like it did when I was four.”
• Whistle with my fingers.
• Snap my fingers.
• Throw a frisbee.
• Use a can opener. “I’m left handed and always end up punching little holes all around the can until it can be pried open.”
• Wink my non-dominant eyelid.
