SIGNS SUMMER’S HERE _ How do I know summer’s here?
• My snow blower now starts on the first pull, but my lawnmower won’t start at all.
• My neighbor leaned his ladder against his roof, which means he’s thinking about taking his Christmas decorations down.
• The mosquitoes have unionized and are demanding I donate blood on a recurring monthly basis.
• I put on shorts for the first time and discovered my legs are the exact color of a freshly peeled potato.
• My AC bill arrived, and the electric company thoughtfully included a sympathy card.

WIDOW NEARLY LOSES $700,000 IN GOLD TO TERRORISM SCAM _ A 79-year-old widow in Michigan got a call from scammers telling her that her Social Security income was being used to fund terrorism, and that she needed to buy gold so law enforcement could track down the criminals responsible. She went to Grand Rapids Coins to purchase $700,000 worth of gold, but the shop owner smelled a scam right away. He called the police, who confirmed his suspicions. The plan was for the woman to meet a courier at a donut shop near the store to hand over the gold — but instead, a detective showed up in her place. An undercover agent dressed up like an older woman used a package of chocolate gold coins to deliver to the courier, a 20-year-old who was arrested.

STUDY FINDS THERE’S NOTHING MOMS DON’T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT _ There have been tons of studies about how important it is for all people to engage in self-care, whether it means exercising, relaxing, engaging in your favorite activity, or getting a little extra sleep. But finding time for yourself, especially when you’re in a relationship or a parent, can be extremely difficult, and a study found that even when moms do find the time to treat ourselves, they are riddled with guilt about it. The study finds more parents (45%) than childless people (32%) say that simply don’t have time to engage in caring for themselves. Also not super surprisingly, singletons are more likely to regularly make time for self-care than those who are married or in a relationship (42% versus 30%). More moms than dads are more likely to feel both overwhelmed (66% versus 53%) and burnt out (54% versus 43%).
