Cedar Falls, Waterloo West & Waverly-Shell Rock baseball teams fall in Substate Finals

The high school baseball postseason continued Wednesday night with Substate Finals in Class 4A and 3A and a trio of area teams were among those competing.

In Class 4A Substate Finals involving metro teams…

Cedar Falls suffered a 9-3 loss at home to West Des Moines Valley.

The Tigers took advantage of five walks and several wild pitches to grab a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd, but Valley responded quickly and tied the game in the top of the 3rd with a three-run home run.

The score remained tied at 3 until the top of the 7th when Valley erupted for six runs. 

Cedar Falls finishes its season with a 23-14 record.


4th-ranked Waukee scored the winning run on a walk-off wild pitch to edge Waterloo West, 2-1.

Waterloo West finishes its season 16-20. 

In Class 3A Substate Finals involving area teams…

North Polk defeated Waverly-Shell Rock, 4-2. 

The Go-Hawks led 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th when North Polk rallied to score all four of its runs.

Waverly-Shell Rock concludes its season with a 25-7 record.
