The Cedar Falls high school baseball team is going to the State Tournament.
Last night the 10th-ranked Tigers defeated 6th-ranked Cedar Rapids Kennedy, 2-0, in a Class 4A Substate Final.
The game was scoreless until the top of the 6th when Colin Coonradt scored after an error by Kennedy’s center fielder following a single by the Tigers Logan Wroe. Cedar Falls added an insurance run in the top of the 7th on a sacrifice fly by Payton Marsh.
Tigers pitcher Shae Buskohl tossed a complete game two-hitter, striking out 12.
Cedar Falls has now won 12 of its last 13 games to improve to 27-14 this season.
The Tigers will play Southeast Polk in the state tournament quarterfinals Tuesday evening at 5 at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City. Cedar Falls is the 6-seed, while the Rams are the 3-seed.
