The US Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 presented a $642,400 ceremonial check to the City of Waterloo on Thursday. The event was located in the new Crystal Cold Storage site at 1656 Sycamore Street. EPA officials selected the City of Waterloo for cleanup of the former Rath Packing Company buildings property, a site contaminated with asbestos-containing building materials. The packing company was closed and liquidated in 1985.
Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart says this is a great day for Waterloo.
