UNLV Shooting Suspect Was Former Instructor at UNI
Anthony Polito was Visiting Instructor From 2000-2001
The gunman who opened fire on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, on Wednesday had ties to the Cedar Valley. Authorities say 67-year-old Anthony Polito, of Henderson, Nevada, shot and killed three people and injured another. According to the Associated Press, Polito had applied for a job at UNLV, but was not hired. Throughout his teaching career, he worked at colleges and universities in North Carolina, Georgia, Iowa and Nevada. Polito was at the University of Northern Iowa in the early 2000’s. He was hired in January 2000 as a visiting instructor for the Spring and Fall 2000 semesters in the management department in the College of Business Administration. His appointment as a visiting instructor was then extended by UNI through the Spring 2001 semester. Polito was accused of killing three faculty members at UNLV, before he was killed in a shootout with police.
