Rob's Rest Area

It’s Fall, Y’all

If you were listening to my show today (Monday), you heard me talk about my fall outdoor tasks. I take the garden hose off the spigot and attach the Styrofoam cover, put the patio furniture and the grill in the garage. I also take my cement eagle and birdbath indoors as well. Then I trim back the roses for their long winter slumber. I know all of us have pretty much the same chores we do each fall at about this time. The thing I do not like is knowing that the warmer weather is really over for the season, and winter – like it or not – is barreling towards us at breakneck speed. When I get to that mood, I can always cheer myself up by knowing that this means that the holidays are fast approaching, and there will be ample time to get together with friends and family. Snow? Sure, after December, it seems like it will never end, but the first few snowfalls of the season are peaceful and beautiful. That is why I chose to live right here in Northeast Iowa. We get to experience all 4 seasons (sometimes all in the same day, but I digress). We have great friendly people, communities that work hard to provide us with exciting and interesting activities, outstanding school systems, and a cost of living that is the envy of most other areas. I love it here with all of my heart, so please do not take my grumblings too seriously… Remember – I’m an old man, and one of the perks of age is getting to grumble about things we have no power over!

Say – speaking of the holidays, you know that soon you will be making your Christmas lists. When you are asked what you would like this year, please consider items that can be picked up from your locally owned small businesses. We are very blessed to have such a diverse amount of specialty stores that are owned by our neighbors and friends. We will not only be helping support them, we will be supporting our communities as well. I guarantee you I will be reminding folks about the benefits of shopping local in the near future, but for now, check the businesses out and start making those lists!

Tomorrow is Halloween, and for those of you who were asking the times that the kids will be out trick or treating, Here are a few times to remember:
