I am well aware of the news surrounding the passing of the infamous OJ Simpson on Thursday. I had a few people send me notes asking why I did not mention anything on the air. Personally, and in my own opinion, I did not feel it was necessary to give him any more publicity than he deserves. He is now gone, and I hope he made peace with his maker. We will let history decide how he will be remembered, and I pray that the Goldman and Brown families will finally find the peace that eluded them for so many years. And now, on to lighter topics:

WHY RESTAURANTS GIVE YOU BREAD BEFORE YOU ORDER _ Lots of sit-down restaurants offer a free basket of bread to their customers. Ever wonder why? From a business standpoint, it doesn’t make sense: Giving customers the chance to fill up on bread they haven’t paid for before they eat their meals? Seems dumb. The reason makes sense, however. Customers are pains when they’re waiting, according to an industry expert, and bread essentially helps keep them quiet and patient while they wait at their table. That basket of bread — or chips, or breadsticks, depending on the restaurant — helps ward off “hangriness,” and we all know how our tempers flare when we’re starving. Free baskets of bread equal happy, not-angry customers.

HOUSEWORK IS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH _ Housework is good for you. A study out of the UK says that if you clean your house vigorously for twenty minutes non-stop once a week, your anxiety, distress or depression may improve.

Fussin’ and Feudin’ _ A study says 1 in 5 of us has a feud or disagreement with someone that’s ongoing — 1 year or more. Half of these are so-called family feuds, where one part of a family is fighting with another part of a family.
