Spooner Awaits Murder Trial, Sentencing Delayed for Arson

A 59-year old man who was found guilty of arson, has had his sentencing for that charge pushed back. Last August, fire crews were sent to the 300 block of East 2nd Street on the report of a fire. John Spooner was located in the area by police after responding to the incident. Witnesses saw him with a large lighter at that time and video showed him in possession of a gas can immediately before the fire and upon smoke coming from the structure, he discarded the gas can. The owner of the home, Tony Grider, was found dead in his bedroom with 2nd-degree burns over his body. A jury found Spooner guilty of first degree arson in November. He is still set to undergo a jury trial on May 9th for the first degree murder charge. However, sentencing for the arson charge has now been delayed to this summer.
