Accidental Shots Fired Incident at MercyOne Waterloo Investigated

Waterloo Police are continuing their investigation into an accidental shots-fired incident Friday morning at MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. Around 9:40AM, a gunshot was heard in the facility. The facility was put on immediate lockdown, and Waterloo Police were on site minutes later, finding damage from a weapon discharge in a restroom. At around 10:44AM, the “Violent intruder all clear” code was dispatched, clearing the lockdown.  Officials say they believe the shot was an accidental discharge by an individual accompanying a patient. On a Facebook post, Waterloo Police said that, “he got scared and left the hospital” after the weapon fired.  There were no reported injuries and the investigation is continuing.
